Managing Exhibitions on Your Website

Choose which exhibitions and works appear on your website, and set each exhibition's cover image, press release and homepage text color.

Written by Kalila Richards

Your exhibitions come straight from ARTERNAL. Titles, dates, artists and works are taken from each exhibition record, so you don't enter them twice. In the CMS, you choose which exhibitions and works appear on your site and add a few website-only details.

👁️ Choose which exhibitions appear

  1. In the CMS, click Exhibitions in the sidebar.

  2. Click Content at the top left. The Exhibitions panel opens.

  3. Turn an exhibition's switch on to show it, or off to hide it. Use Toggle all to switch them all at once, or the search box to find one.

  4. Click Publish to make your changes live.

An exhibition marked No dates can't be turned on until it has a start and end date. Add them to the exhibition in ARTERNAL. See Exhibitions and Fairs Need Dates Before They Publish.

🖼️ Choose which works appear

  1. In the Exhibitions panel, click an exhibition's name to expand it.

  2. Turn each work on or off.

  3. Click Publish.

You can also do this from the exhibition's settings panel, which has its own Toggle all for works (see below).

⚙️ Exhibition settings

  1. On the Exhibitions page, click an exhibition in the preview to open it.

  2. Click Content at the top left. The exhibition's settings panel opens.

  3. Make your changes. They're saved as drafts as you go.

  4. Click Publish.

  • Classification: choose Main Exhibitions or Institutional Exhibitions. Institutional exhibitions are listed below the main ones on your site.

  • Hero text tone: choose White text or Black text for the title shown over this exhibition's image on your homepage. Use black text for pale images.

  • Cover image: the image used for the exhibition's card and homepage banner. If you don't add one, the exhibition's cover artwork from ARTERNAL is used.

  • Press release: upload a PDF with Upload press release (PDF).

  • Works: turn individual works on or off, or use Toggle all.

To go back to the full list, click Exhibitions in the sidebar.

❓FAQs

Q: An exhibition's switch is greyed out.

A: It's missing a start or end date. Add both dates to the exhibition in ARTERNAL, then turn it on.

Q: I changed an exhibition's title in ARTERNAL. Do I need to update the website?

A: No. Details that come from the exhibition record update on your site automatically.
