Artwork Location History lets you see where an artwork has been over time, helping you track movement between studios, storage, galleries, and exhibitions.
From mobile, you can review past locations, update the current location, add sublocations, notes, and assign a contact for accountability.
Before You Start
Before updating an artwork’s location on mobile, keep in mind:
Mobile allows you to select from existing locations only
If a location hasn’t been used or saved before, it must first be created and saved on desktop
Once saved on desktop, the location will automatically appear as an option on mobile
How to View Artwork Location History (Mobile)
Step 1: Open the Artwork
Open the ARTERNAL mobile app and tap on the artwork you’d like to review.
Step 2: Open Artwork Actions
Tap the ⓘ Info icon in the top corner of the artwork.
Step 3: Select Location History
From the menu, select Location History to view a chronological list of the artwork's locations.
Each entry shows:
Location and sublocation
Date and time of the update
The user who made the change
Step 4: How to Add a Location Entry
Adding a New Location (Mobile)
When adding a new artwork location, you can select from existing locations.
Tap Edit
From the artwork’s Location History, tap Edit to update to the current location. If you would like to add a past location, that must be on the desktop version.
Choose a Location
If the location already exists, simply select it from the list.
If the location has not been used or saved before, you’ll need to create and save it first on desktop.
📌 New locations must be saved on desktop before they can be selected on mobile.
Once the location exists, it will appear in the mobile list and can be used going forward.
Step 5: Save Changes
Tap Save to add the artwork. The change will automatically be added to the artwork’s Location History.

Q: Are location changes tracked automatically?
A: Yes. Every time a location is updated, it’s recorded with a timestamp and user name.
Q: Does this affect the artwork’s Activity Timeline?
A: Yes. Location updates also appear in the artwork’s Activity Timeline for full visibility.
