How to Assign and Reassign Contacts

Learn how to assign or reassign contacts in ARTERNAL, one at a time or in bulk from the selection cart.

Written by Kalila Richards

Contacts in ARTERNAL can be assigned or reassigned to a user by changing the Primary Assignment on the contact record, or for many contacts at once from the selection cart.

This is commonly used when transferring collector relationships or updating account ownership. Assigning contacts also helps prevent outreach crossover within your team.

Assigning a single contact

To assign or reassign one contact:

  1. Go to Contacts.

  2. Open the contact record.

  3. Next to Primary Assignment, click the current user’s name.

  4. Choose a user or Me. To remove the assignment, choose Unassign.

The contact will now be assigned to the selected user.

Assigning contacts in bulk

To update multiple contacts at once:

  1. Go to Contacts.

  2. Tick the checkbox next to each contact you want to assign. The selection cart opens on its own.

  3. Click Assign to User (the person icon) along the top of the cart.

  4. Choose a user or Me. To remove the assignment, choose Unassign.

  5. Confirm the change.

This will update the assigned user across all selected contacts.

Filtering by assigned user

To see contacts by who they’re assigned to, click All Contacts at the top right of the Contacts page and choose a user.

Important notes

  • Reassigning a contact does not delete activity history.

  • Contact notes, emails, and transactions remain attached to the contact record.

  • Bulk reassignment can help quickly reorganize ownership across teams.
